Investigation of nutritional status and habits of Cukurova University students

Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to investigate the nutritional status and dietary habits of the students studying in the formal and evening education programmes at Çukurova University during 2014-2015 academic year. The data of the study were collected by a questionnaire form. The form was applied to 245 students studying at Çukurova University via face-to-face interview method. IBM SPSS 22.0 software was used for the evaluation of the data. The significance level of the tests was accepted as p <0.05. 53.5% of the students were males and 46.5% were females. The mean age of the students was 22.08 + 2,1. The mean body mass index (BMI) of the students was found to be 22.97 + 3.19. 64.1% of the students were in the normal group according to the BMI classification and 20 % of them were in the normal group in terms of the classification of fat percentage. It was determined that 16.3% of the students had received nutrition education. It was also identified that 52.2% of the students who participated in the study were skippingtheir breakfasts. It was found that daily energy intake of students met 77% of the daily recommended level. The mean sodium and potassium intake was found to be above the recommended daily level. It should be aimed to raise the students' awaranesses of nutrition in order to make them maintain their healthy lives.
