Abstract (EN)
1History and Theory of Architecture, Master's ThesisThis study was undertaken with the objective of re-opening discussion on the experienceof ?modernity? which the citizens of Ankara enjoyed after the establishment of theRepublic.Consequently, in the 3rd chapter of this study, prevalent thought patterns on ?theModernity of Turkey? were examined in the light of the Theory of Modernity andconceptual debates which exhibit a critical approach towards this theory.The 4th chapter of this study attempts to analyze the experience of ?modernity? enjoyedby the citizens of Ankara by reading on the changes seen in places of entertainment andpractices specific to these places.In the conclusion section, in connection with evaluations, it has been shown that,different sections of the society have been ?establishing links? with the modernityexperience in different ways. Consequently, an attempt has been made to explain the?interpretation? or ?non-interpretation? of Western modernity as envisioned by theRepublic and the resultant different versions of modernity.Keywords: Entertainment spaces, modernization, modernityJURY:1.
