Abstract (EN)
19 SUMMARY EFFECTS OF LEAD CONCENTRATION AND EXPOSURE PERIOD ON THE ACCUMULATION OF LEAD IN LIVER, GILL AND MUSCLE TISSUES OF Cyprmus earpio Accumulation of lead in liver, gill and muscle tissues of C. earpio was studied at different concentrations of lead in th medium over differnt exposure periods. Fish were exposed to 0.01 ppm, 0.05 ppm, 0.5 ppm and 1.0 ppm lead concentrations over 1, 7, 15 and 30 days and the levels of accumulation in liver, gill and muscle tissues were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. No mortality was observed during the experiments. Accumulation of lead was higher in liver compared with muscle tissue. Liver accumulation of lead increased with increasing concentrations of lead in the medium and with increasing exposure periods. Muscle levels of lead showed a decrease on day 1 5 and day 30 at the 1.0 ppm Pb concentration. Accumulation of lead in the gill tissue decreased after 15 days of exposure to 0.01 and 0.05 ppm Pb concentrations. In the 0.5 and 1.0 ppm Pb concentrations, however, accumulation in gill tissue was higher than in liver liver and muscle tissues.
