Abstract (EN)

Democratic Party Member of Manisa Assembly Şemi Ergin's life and his activities from 1950 to 1960 are studied. There have been studies to live and keep alive the democracy entirely from the establishment of Republic. Even though there were attempts for multi-party life, the process of democratization started completely with the foundation of Democratic Party (DP). In this thesis, the autobiography of Şemi Ergin, Democratic Party Manisa Deputy, and his activities at the Turkish Grand National Assembly were explained. Foundation of DP, its founders, especially studies between 1950-1960 were mentioned. This study occurs with three parts; introduction, progress and conclusion. In the first part of the thesis, the attempts to the transitions to Multi-Party life in Turkey, achieved so many reforms such as political, economic, religious and education, internal and external factors during the attempts of Multi-Party life, the foundation of DP, charter and program of party, quartet proposal and four majör founders and their political identities were indicated. In the second part, how the DP had been organized in Manisa, activities in Manisa, city congresses were expressed. Local elections in 1946, 1950, 1954 and 1957 in Manisa were analyzed. The results of elections were studied, too. In the third part of this thesis, the life of Şemi Ergin who was the Member of Parliament of Manisa for three periods, his activities at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, his speeches and legislative proposals were revealed.
