Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to determine the degree of democratic attitude and behaviour of the principals working in secondary education institutions in Bolu and to specify whether these attitudes and behaviours indicate a significant differences according to demographic variables and opinions of teachers and principals. The population of the research, which was performed with descriptive screening model, consists of 1006 teachers and 42 principals working in 42 secondary education institutions in Bolu on behalf of Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education. The sample of the research was consisted of 450 teachers and 24 school principals. During the research process, personal information form and Democratic Attitude and Behaviour Level Scale have been used. Research data has been analysed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences programme version SPSS 23.0 Analyses of the data was examined with frequency, percentage, mean, standart deviation, Independent Samples T-Test, Kruscal Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test. According to the results from the research most of the teachers and the principals think that principals show democratic attitudes and behaviours in a very high level. In evaluating the principals' democratic attitudes and behaviours, while there are no significant differences in teachers' age, professional seniority and working time, it was found that there are significant differences in terms of gender and education background. On the other hand, there are no significant differences in principals' democratic attitudes and behaviours in terms of principals' gender, age, professional seniority, education background, it was seen that working time in the same institution has not caused any difference. A significant difference in terms of the principals' democratic attitudes and behaviours has been found between the teachers and the principals who work in the secondary education institutions. When the mean ranks are examined, it is concluded that the scoring level of principals are higher than the teachers' scoring level in terms of principals' democratic attitudes and behaviours Key words: Secondary Education Institutions, principal, democratic attitudes and behaviours.
