The investigation of the effects of scutellarin on the expression and localization of some lectins in rats with experimental colitis

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a disease that manifests itself in three different ways: ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and indeterminate colitis, the cause of which is unknown and shows different symptoms depending on its location in the colon and its severity. In this study, the effects of scutellarin on ECL, WGA, GSL 1, RCA, EEL, PSA, GNL, MAA and SNA lectins in rats with experimental colitis were investigated using histochemical techniques. In the study, 5 different study groups were created: control group, colitis group, scutellarin + colitis group, sulfasalazine + colitis group and scutellarin group. While physiological saline was applied to the control group for 14 days, acetic acid was administered to the colitis group to induce colitis. In the scutellarin+colitis and sulfasalazine+colitis groups, scutellarin and sulfasalazine were administered for 14 days and then acetic acid was administered to induce colitis. After the applications, colon tissue samples were taken and stained with histochemical techniques, and their staining intensity and distribution were determined by using biotinylated labeled lectins with sugar-specific oligosaccharide units. According to the data obtained, colitis increased the staining intensity of some lectins, scutellarin application caused a decrease in lectin positive areas in the colon mucosa and connective tissue, and it was observed that the cells increased their oligosaccharide units to protect themselves against damage. It has been determined that Scutellarin application has a mild and moderate effect on damage.
