Abstract (EN)
Evaluation of Crown Fractures in Permanent Teeth Following Dental Trauma Using the Modified Baysal Dental Trauma Index and Clinical Follow-Up of Their Treatments Aim: The classification of traumatic dental injuries (TDI), treatment protocols, and long-term follow-up based on scientific foundations are critically important for successful clinical outcomes. In this thesis study, it is aimed to systematically classify TDI patients presenting with crown fracture complaints using the Modified Eden Baysal Dental Trauma Index (MEBDTI), to perform appropriate treatments, and to follow up on these treatments clinically. Material and method: Children aged 6 to 14 years who presented to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry with complaints of traumatic dental injuries were included in the study. Sociodemographic data of the parents, as well as the medical, dental and injury histories of the children, were recorded. A trauma registration form incorporating MEBDTI was used for the classification of the injuries. Following the completion of the treatments for crown fractures, patients were followed up for one year. Results: A total of 102 permanent teeth from 73 patients were included in our study. The most common cause of crown fractures was falling, accounting for 64.4% of cases, and the most frequently affected teeth were the maxillary central incisors, with a rate of 98%. Among the 27 teeth diagnosed with complicated crown fractures, 18 (66.7%) underwent cvek pulpotomy, 5 (18.5%) received endodontic treatment, and 4 (14.8%) were treated with direct pulp capping. Of the 57 teeth with uncomplicated crown fractures, 54 (94.7%) were restored with composite restorations, and 3 (5.3%) underwent indirect pulp capping. A statistically significant relationship was found between the type of fracture and the type of treatment (p<0.001). Conclusion: Through the systematic classification of TDIs using the MEBDTI, appropriate treatment approaches were identified. Specifically, cvek pulpotomy was the preferred method in complicated crown fractures, while composite restorations were commonly used for uncomplicated fractures, both yielding successful clinical outcomes.
