Abstract (EN)

Turkey is exposed to the disasters quite often and these disasters have negative social, economic and physical impacts. Among the disasters subjected by the country, the largest disasters always caused by the earthquakes. Earthquakes caused large number of casualties and loss of properties and fires after earthquakes; as a secondary disaster, increased these losses. Especially the fires in industrial areas causes large economic losses which grows as the subsequent economical losses adds up to the onsite losses due to the physical damages. The way to reduce these losses is to focus on the risk and loss reduction practices. The industrial fires which might occur due to the earthquakes should be studied in terms of danger and risk and actions on prevention, avoidance, risk reduction and intervention must be developed. In this context, it is important to account the worst case scenarios and the apply the disaster management principles particularly in the planning stage of these industrial areas. Moreover, thanks to the developing new technologies fire resistant materials, alarm systems and intervention tools and means should also be incorporated to the design. Lastly, it should be mentioned that, the artificial intelligence applications should also be employed to increase the efficiency of the disaster management tasks.
