Abstract (EN)
Mental verbs, which occupy an important place in linguistic classifications, are a thematic group of verbs that enable individuals to express their emotions, thoughts, perceptions, and cognitive processes at the linguistic level. After perception verbs, which initiate the mental process, information obtained from the environment is reflected in the mind and forms cognitive verbs that express mental activities. The basis of this study is formed by cognitive verbs that describe cognitive processes such as knowing, learning, remembering, and evaluating that occur in an individual's mental phase. This study was conducted because there are no thesis studies on cognitive verbs in the literature and studies based on Anatolian dialects are limited to articles. In addition, this study will reveal the place and importance of cognitive verbs in Anatolian dialects based on the Türkiye'de Halk Ağzından Derleme Sözlüğü (Compilation Dictionary in Türkiye from Folk Language). In the study, data was first obtained and classified by searching the Türkiye'de Halk Ağzından Derleme Sözlüğü. The documentation technique was used as the data collection method in the study, and the collected data was analysed using content analysis in accordance with qualitative research methods. The study consists of a total of five main sections, including the Introduction and Conclusion. In the Introduction section, information is provided about the subject, purpose and importance of the study, its scope and limitations, the method used, and the Türkiye'de Halk Ağzından Derleme Sözlüğü. In the first section of the study, titled Mental Verbs, the definition, meaning and characteristics of mental verbs are examined, along with some studies and sample classifications that have been made. Brief information is provided on the three subheadings of mental verbs that are generally accepted: perception, cognition, and emotion verbs. The second section, titled Cognitive Verbs, provides information on the definitions of the words cognition, mind, memory, brain, and perception, as well as the semantic characteristics of these words. In addition, this section examines the scope of cognitive verbs and studies in the field. The third section is titled Cognitive Verbs in the Compilation Dictionary. In this section, cognitive verbs were identified by searching the Compilation Dictionary, classified, and examined. In the conclusion section, evaluations were made based on the data obtained. The study found that there were a total of 1,936 cognitive verbs. The number of verbs identified in terms of meaning was 2,002. In this context, it was determined that the cognitive verbs found in Anatolian dialects offer a rich vocabulary in terms of meaning. Based on the data obtained from the study, it can also be said that the expressive adequacy of cognitive verbs in Anatolian dialects is at a high level.
