Abstract (EN)

Sustainable design is a form of design in which the available resources are used at a minimum level and it is one of the most urgent issues in architecture and landscape. Therefore, various strategies and concepts are created to facilitate research and application on the subject. In this study, it has been studied in two locations in Libya's city of Derna in accordance with the sustainability concepts. The places where the study was conducted are the city's slopes and valleys, which are part of the city's identity and are not currently used to serve its residents. The main aim of the research is to present sustainable development models for valleys and slopes in Derna city, based on a well-known and well-established evaluation system. Within the scope of the study, firstly a survey study was conducted and then, based on the questionnaire, the needs and opinions of the residents were determined. Considering these views, two models that can be applied to the slopes and valleys in the city were designed. Various sustainable techniques are used in these designs, such as green roofs, energy management systems and water management systems. Both designs have been evaluated against the LEED certification criteria and credits for new construction. The results of the sustainability analysis showed that the design in the slope region can gain 69 points, and the design in the valley region can gain 64 points based on the conceptual design. Current earned points ensure designs receive gold LEED certification. There are also some criteria that cannot be scored because more designs, plans and implementation are required in the later stages of the project. In these stages, the additional points that can be obtained in the slope region are 20 and 16 points in the valley region, and when these points are added, the total points can be 89 and 80, respectively. These scores can ensure that the 80 points limit required for platinum LEED certification is exceeded.
