Abstract (EN)

With the exponential growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) usage and devices and with the increasing interest of users in acquiring these devices to improve comfort and optimize their household chores, it is necessary to develop a robust and secure smart home system that allows users to connect all these devices and manage their information in a flexible way, with low implementation costs. Thus, this thesis target is to present a cost reduced and flexible home control and monitoring system based on the concept of IoT using NodeMCU ESP8266 module and Arduino Uno board with Blynk mobile application and Ubidots IoT platform, accessing and controlling devices and appliances at any time and remotely from a mobile phone, a PC or any other device with an internet connection. In this project, three relay switches, a DHT22 sensor for measuring temperature and humidity, IR sensors for detections, and an ultrasonic sensor for measuring the distance with Blynk server and Ubidots cloud are used. In addition, the system also offers highly secure and encrypted data exchange between the ESP8266 and the server. Therefore, a proper cryptographic algorithm is used, which is the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technique to protect the system's valuable data. The designed smart home system can unlock door and control lights which are connected with relay switches. Also, the system monitors house surrounding with a dedicated DHT22 sensor, show the status of the door and window by IR1 and IR2 sensors, and measure the distance of an object by the ultrasonic sensor with live update of data in very short interval.
