Determining the response of some melez corn varieties (Zea mays L.) to plant density in single and twin row

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to compare single and twin-row planting pattern and to determine optimum plant density for hybrid maize (DKC5364, P0573), commercially grown in West Blacksee condition of Turkey, during the main crop growing season in 2020. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement with three replications. Main plots were plant densities of 8,000, 9000, 10 000, 11 000 and 12 000 plants/da. Split-plots were planting patterns (single row (70 cm) and twin row (70-20cm). In this study, tasselling period time, plant height, firs ear height, stem diameter, ears number per plant, ear length, ear diameter, ear weight, ear grain weight, thousand grain weight, hectoliter weight, protein ratio, fat ratio and grain yields were masured. The effect of planting pattern was statically important for grain yield. Grain yiled was observed a 1250.7 kg/da, and 1363.9 kg/da in single row and double-row respectively. It was observed that grain yield of twin row planting pattern was 9.5%more than single row planting. The highest grain yield was determined 10 000 plants/da in twin row planting.
