Abstract (EN)
The aim of this action research is to incorporate the topics related to SDG 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities into English language courses using creative methodology. More specifically, the study has proposed three lesson plans that addressed the issues of walkability, liveability, and manageability in large cities for the high school English curriculum in Türkiye. Participants of the study were eleven 11th grade students and an English language teacher. Data came from lesson evaluation forms and focus group interviews. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyse the interview data. Findings revealed that the participants developed awareness of sustainable urban living, especially of earthquakes and local community issues such as unsafe walking paths, environmental cleanliness and safe infrastructure. Creative teaching approaches such as poetry and drama engaged students more to the topic and the lessons and helped them look at the glocal issues from different angles. Lastly, the courses contributed to students' vocabulary expansion and communication skills.
