Abstract (EN)

Throughout historical processes, art and architecture have evolved in constant interaction with each other. With the acceleration of technological advancements and the digitization of analog data derived from the physical world, digitalization has gained momentum, introducing new modes of expression in both art and architecture. The new possibilities offered by digital technologies—such as network connectivity, interactivity, and virtuality—have given rise to contemporary art forms like digital installation art, which affect the relationship between the participant and the artwork. Situated in direct relation to the spatial environment that mediates the interaction between the artwork and the participant, digital installation art produces various experiential art forms and spatial constructs. The aim of this study is to examine the impacts of digitalization on art and architecture, and to highlight, within the framework of installation art, the innovative approaches that digital technologies have introduced into spatial practices through artistic means. In line with this objective, the study adopts qualitative data collection techniques and a content analysis method. Fourteen digital installation artworks created after the year 2000—when digital installation production significantly accelerated—are evaluated in terms of their relationship with space, focusing on themes such as physical characteristics, design elements, sensory dimensions, and perceptual aspects. The findings reveal that digital installations, by inherently embracing interdisciplinarity, transform the criteria by which spatial experience is assessed. The study concludes that the new digital means of expression used in installations deepen spatial perception and sensory experience, enriching the physical experience, and transforming design into a more creative, multilayered, participatory, and flexible process.
