Cyberbullying and cyber victimization in the digital media era

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to draw attention to the cyberbullying action that occurs through changing communication channels and social media and to offer solutions. The research is shaped around two concepts; cyberbullying and cyber victimization. Quantitative and qualitative methods were preferred as the methodological model of the research. The research revealed the prevalence of cyberbullying actions with the survey technique of the quantitative method, while the semi-structured interview technique of the qualitative method was revealed the effects of the event on individuals who experienced cyber victimization. The sample of the research is Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and survey interviews were conducted with 3rd and 4th grade students. Semi-structured interviews of the research were also carried out with Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University students. According to this research, the rate of exposure to cyberbullying acts is high. According to interviews made with the victims of cyberbullying, those who are faced with this situation experience deep psychological, social and daily life problems. While the research draws attention to the fact that cyberbullying acts are high, it also focuses on the deep psychological state of the victims. It has been determined that cyber victims feel dissatisfied with their physical features, experience socialization problems, feel reluctance in academic work and education, and experience deep unhappiness as a result of the events they experience. It has been determined that victims who are in a deep psychological state caused by cyberbullying acts think that they cannot get rid of this situation. It has been determined that some victims have sustained permanent damage and continue their lives with the effects of this negative event. The research provides sample data for these situations and reveals the rates of cyberbullying acts.
