The effect of listening metacognitive strategy training on listening skills of learners of Turkish as a foreign language

The study aims to investigate whether listening metacognitive strategy training has an effect on listening success levels, listening metacognitive awareness levels and listening self-efficacy levels of Turkish learners as a foreign language as well as determinng the views of the experimental group learners on listening metacognitive strategy training. The model of the study is mixed method. The experimental group have taken 21 sessions listening metacognitive strategy training, while control group have not received any treatment on the issue. SPSS 22 program has been used in the analysis of the quantitative data of the study. As the analysis method, two-way analysis of variance for mixed measurements has been used. Again, content analysis has been used in the analysis of the qualitative data of the study. The results show that listening skill self-efficacy levels, listening success levels and listening metacognitive awareness levels of the learners in the experimental group have increased significantly at the end of the experimental process. Again, the learners in the experimental group have reported mostly positive opinions about strategy training. These results obtained from the study have discussed with similar research results in the literature and some suggestions have been made to the trainers and researchers.
