Demographic, clinical and radiological evaluation of patients treated with monoblock dental implants in the Faculty of Dentistry

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate monoblock dental implants placed in the Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Eskişehir Osmangazi University, over a three-year follow-up period in terms of demographic, clinical and radiographic parameters, and to investigate the potential effect of the width of keratinized attached mucosa (KAM) on periimplantitis-associated bone loss (PBL) Material and Method: Patients who received monoblock dental implants and had functional loading for at least three years were included. Demographic data (age, gender, smoking status), implant location, plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), and the width of keratinized attached mucosa (KAM) were clinically recorded. Peri-implant bone loss (PBL) was assessed on orthopantomographic images. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive and comparative statistical methods. Results: A total of 157 implants in 38 patients were examined. KAM showed statistically significant associations with gender, age, jaw region, smoking status, GI and PD (p<0.05). PBL demonstrated a significant correlation with PI and PD (p<0.05). Higher KAM values were observed in male patients, younger individuals, smokers, and implants placed in the maxilla. Decreased KAM was associated with increased GI, PD and PBL. Conclusion: The single-piece design of monoblock implants minimizes microgap formation and reduces the risk of microleakage and plaque accumulation. The findings indicate that the width of keratinized attached mucosa significantly influences peri-implant soft tissue health and bone loss, highlighting its importance in the long-term success of monoblock dental implants.
