Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of school children with diabetes on their metabolic control. Material and method: The descriptive study was carried out with 131 children / adolescents aged 10-18 years, who applied to the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic of Tepecik Training and Research Hospital between May 2017 - June 2018. In order to determine the current situation of children with diabetes and their families, the Identity Information Form, the School Barriers/Problems Form and the Perceived Social Support Scale were used to measure the perceived social support level of children with diabetes. Findings: The study included children/adolescents with diabetes; It was found that the total average score and perceived social support from the Perceived Social Support Scale were high (X=136.641±8.754). There was a moderate and inverse relationship between the perceived Social Support Scale total score and HbA1c value, and HbA1c values decreased as the perceived social support increased in children with diabetes (r= -0.466 p=0.000<0.001). When the findings related to the effects of diabetes children/adolescents on metabolic control of school problems were examined; It was found that children/adolescents with diabetes had the most "snack-related" and "blood glucose measurement" problems at school and there was a statistically significant difference between these parameters and the mean HbA1c value score (respectively; p= 0.004, p= 0,000, p <0.05) Conclusion: In the study, it was concluded that children with diabetes have an impact on metabolic control of problems and perceived social support. Key words: Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes, Diabetes Management in School, HbA1c, Social Support, Perceived Social Support
