Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine the applicability of the dialogic method in teaching the subject of quadrilaterals to 5th grade students. The participants of the research are three students studying in the 5th grade of a public school in Ortahisar district of Trabzon province in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the research in which the case study method was adopted, the course process, which was taught in accordance with the dialogic method with the students, lasted for three weeks. Video recordings, teacher diaries and student diaries were used to collect data in the research. The obtained data were analyzed with descriptive analysis method according to Alexander (2000)'s dialogic teaching principles "collectiveness", "reciprocity", "supportiveness", "cumulativeness" and "purposefulness". According to the results obtained from the research, as of the third day, the teaching was in accordance with all the principles of Alexander, It has been seen that students are active in the process and teacher and student behaviors have traditional traces. In addition, it was observed that the students accepted the rotated form of the square as a rhombus and thought that the rectangle had one short side and one long side. At the end of the research, it is recommended to provide students with practice in discussion methods in order to increase their inquiry skills and to prepare a book on dialogic method for teachers.
