Analysis of country selection criteria of foreign direct investors for investment and qualified labor force for migration: Algeria example

Abstract (EN)

In our era, increase of competition has let investors to seek new markets. In this respect, investors decide to enter the markets by evaluating them according to certain criteria. In the first parts of the study, these criteria which are sought by the companies in search of new markets are analysed. While the structure of the market is important for investment decisions of companies, the criteria of the country is more important in migration of qualified workforce. In the second part, reasons for the migration of workforce and selection criteria of countries to live in are analysed with the theoretical information. In the third part, the reasons of the migration of qualified workforce from developed to developing countries are investigated, contrary to the findings presented in the examples in literature depicting the brain drain as a trend from developing to developed countries. In this respect, workforce which are migrated from Turkey to Algeria is selected as sample. 5 Turkish companies operating in Algeria is selected and 39 Turkish citizen working in these companies are included in the reseach. Questionnaire data from these people are collected. According to the investigation result, while Algeria is superior to Turkey with respect to salary, status and working conditions, it lost its advantage against Turkey in healthcare, education, social life and meeting basic needs.
