Abstract (EN)
Beside the fact that the earth which we dwell on is the base of any type construction, it is the building material of airports, ports, water holding constructions, transporting ways by making the features of earth better. Due to this fact, the engineering features of ground and rocks that constitute the earth such as carrying, capacity, durability, volume actions, permeability, dren capability, frost sensitivity, compactibility should be known and the physical features required for the building to be constructed should be improved. The soils that haven?t got desirable engineering features should be made better via various methods and techniques (compaction, drainage, stabilization techniques) by conforming them to a sufficient stable situation. Among the soil improvement techniques, compaction is the easiest, cheapest and especially the most effective one. In making filling, if sufficient compaction isn?t supplied; by being deformed because of its own weight, the effect of dead and active load on it, filling will cause settling more than the acceptable degree. Beside the fact that it shortens vii the project?s life causing the deformation of the covering on the ways, it will spoil the comfort and traffic safety and won?t be economical. Also, before soils compactions; it?s required to choose the compactors which are suitable for filled soils type and feature, determine the layer thickness, passing frequency and velocity in order to increase the efficiency of compactions. Otherwise, it results in not being able to get enough compaction or uneconomical passing frequency numbers. In the inclusion of this, thesis, the soils and their features to be used in making fillings, static and dynamic energy compaction equipments? features, compaction energies, layer thickness and determination of passing numbers, efficiency of compaction equipments, compaction methods and the points that entail great attention in compaction are presented. Key Words : Soiling compaction ? compaction equipment
