Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, teeth belonging to the skeletons removed from Domaniç district of Kütahya province were examined. Teeth were evaluated in terms of linear enamel hypoplasias which is only one of the stres indicators. In this study, we tried to interpret the type and severity of stress that the population was exposed to by evaluating the enamel hypoplasia in the population studied. Linear enamel hypoplasia was not only evaluated in terms of severity and frequency, but also the biological age ranges of defects were calculated in individuals. In the transformation of linear enamel hypoplasias to biological ages were used two different methods belonging to Goodman-Rose (1990) and Reid-Dean (2000; 2006). However, as the method of this research, Reaid and Dean's (2000;2006) method was preferred. At the same time, the data has obtained from Domaniç community with the linear enamel hypoplasias studies by conducted in ancient Anatolian communities were compared. A total of 506 permanent teeth belonging to skeleton of Domaniç Monumental Roman Period were evaluated aspect for linear enamel hypoplasias. As result, linear enamel hypoplasias was found in 17,1% of the teeth examined. Although, different teeth types were affected by linear enamel hypoplasias, it has commonly observed in the anterior teeth. In addition, when evaluated in terms of severity, light and moderately recovered teeth were commonly observed as one or two bands throughout the community. Also linear enamel hypoplasias was observed as five bands in only one individual. In addition the prevelance of hypoplasias in the Domaniç Roman period population is lower compared to other contemporary skeletons known from Anatolia. This situation has been interpreted as a indication that individuals recovere of the grave were exposed to less physiological stres in early infancy and childhood. As a result of the data obtained in the community, it was seen that the periods of intense hypoplasias in the Domaniç community did not ocur in a different period compared to other Anatolian communities. In terms of violence and repetition times, it is possible to say that it is not severe when compared to other Anatolian communities. In addition, periods in which the enamel hypoplasias has observed in the Domaniç community generally indicate the period in which children begin to socialize and meet their environmental. Hypoplasias occurng during this proccess, has thought to be caused by environmental factors, hygiene conditions and factors cuch as epidemic diseases.
