Abstract (EN)

The migration of Turkmens to Anatolia in the middle of the 11th century not only changed the demographic structure of the region, but also paved the way for the establishment of regional principalities. Zayn al-din Karaca Bey, who was appointed as the regent of Elbistan by the Mamluks in 1337, laid the foundations of the Dulkadir Principality by talking advantage of the authority vacuum in the region. The early beys of the Dulkadir estate fought for independence by participating in every alliance against the Mamluk authority. During this struggle, they resorted to the policy of defense to protect their lands from the Mamluks. The process that started with Sevli Bey's inclination towards Emîr Timur in 1390-1398 added a new dimension of the politics of defense. Subsequently, the Dulkadir Beys, who were allied with the Ottomans, took advantage of the Mamluk-Ottoman struggle to become a political power in the region. The policy of intervention, which continued in the region of Bozkurt Bey, was also applied against the Safavid State, which was established in the Azerbaijan-Iran region at the beginning of the 16th century. Bozkurt Bey prepared the end of the policy of defense by showing his side in the Ottoman-Safavid conflict, Finally, the Ottomans, who captured the lands of Dulkadir with the Battle of Turnadağ in 1515, turned the region into province of the Ottomans.
