Abstract (EN)
Investigation of the Relationship Between Sensory Processing and Potential Impact Factors in Elderly Adults Receiving Hip Fracture Surgery for Falling. Master Thesis, Istanbul Atlas University Graduate Education Institute, Department of Occupational Therapy, Istanbul. This study aims to evaluate the sensory processing processes of elderly adults who have undergone fall-related hip fracture surgery in the last 6 months, according to different patterns, and to examine the relationship between physical performance, fall risk, fear of falling, and depression parameters that may be related to sensory processing. 137 elderly adults (92 females, 45 males) aged 65 years and older, who had undergone fall-related hip fracture surgery and had a Mini Mental State Test result ≥ 24, were included in the study. Demographic information form specially prepared for the study to evaluate the demographic information of older adults, Adult Sensory Processing Scale (ASPS) to evaluate sensory processing processes, Short Physical Performance Battery (FPB) to evaluate physical and functional performance, Timed Get Up and Down to assess fall risk. The Walk Test (TUG), the Fall Efficiency Scale (FES) were used to evaluate the fear of falling, and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was used to evaluate the depression. According to the findings, it was found that elderly adult individuals who underwent surgery for hip fracture due to fall had difficulties in sensory processing processes, and there was a significant relationship between physical performance (walking, getting up from a chair, balance), risk of falling, mobility, fear of falling, and sensory processing skills of depression determined (p<0.05). As a result of the study; Older adults who overreact to vestibular input, have a general underreaction to proprioceptive vestibular input that affects postural-motor abilities, have poorer physical performance, have a poor general response, underreact to proprioceptive vestibular input that affects postural-motor abilities, overreact to vestibular input It was observed that the risk of falling and fear of falling increased in older adults who reacted to it, while the risk of falling, fear of falling and depression in elderly adults who were seeking proprioceptive were decreased (p<0.05)
