Development of a mobile learning application to support e-learning and analyze its effects

Abstract (EN)
Recently, thanks to the rapidly growing mobile and communications technologies have given an opportunity to arise develop effective and rich mobile applications. It is tought that using these technologies will benefit to education.In our country, distance education and e-learning applications have been very interested in. Educational institutions that service distance education provide students? educational activities with e-learning applications. Altough e-learning applications have so many advantages for students, there are some limitations in this field. It has been tought that e-learning limitations and mobile learning (m-learning) benefits regarding to these limitations taken into consideration will provide for students having more effective learning environment.In this study, a mobile application has been developed to support e-learning for students of distance education. Mobile application that has been developed was used by 13 students among Gazi University School of Distance Education students. At the end of the study, students? opinions about the m-learning application and effectiveness of the m-learning application have been analysed.It has been determined that thanks to using m-learning in support of e-learning, students were able to have learning activities without time and place at the end of the study. Thus, students were provided with anywhere and anytime learning opportunity. Furthermore, sent informative SMS (Short Message Service) provided students getting informed with announcements of school management and situations like course cancellation, homework assignment, exam date.
