Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of parental attitude perceived by secondary school students playing e-sports on digital game addiction. The population of the research consists of 4150 students attending secondary education in Yozgat Province in the 2023-2024 academic year, and the sample consists of 358 students playing e-sports among 492 students taken from the population. In the study, "Personal Information Form" created by the researcher, "Parental Attitude Scale" developed by Kuzgun (1972) and "Digital Game Addiction Scale", the validity and reliability study of which was conducted by Irmak and Erdoğan (2015), were used as data collection tools. SPSS 25 package program was used to analyze the data, t-test was used for normally distributed pairwise comparisons, and ANOVA analysis was performed for comparisons of more than two variables. According to the results of the research, perceived parental attitudes are affected by gender, parents' education level, family income level, number of siblings, internet availability at home, family type, having their own mobile device, financial gain from digital games, and grade point averages for the semester they completed. While no significant difference was detected according to the variables, a significant difference was detected according to the variables of the class and school studied, and in digital game addiction, gender, type of school, education level of parents, family income level, internet availability at home, family type, digital game addiction While a significant difference was detected according to the variables of gaining financial income from games, no significant difference was detected according to the grade point average of the semester they completed, the status of having their own mobile device, the number of siblings and the grade level of education. When the effect of parental attitude perceived by secondary school students playing e-sports on digital game addiction was examined, it was revealed that parental attitude positively affected digital game addiction at a significantly low level. In light of the information obtained from the research results, expanding the scope of the research, increasing the number of institutions and expanding the scope of students included in the research will make the research results more reliable. In addition, according to the research results, organizing educational seminars for families and students about digital game addiction will help increase awareness.
