Abstract (EN)

In addition to making life easier, digital technologies also cause various negative effects. Excessive and unconscious social media use situations of children can be shown as an example of this. In the research presented in this direction, the effect of the media literacy level of parents on the level of social media use of children is investigated. 404 parents with children between December 3-12 years of age participated in the study. The analyses were performed on 383 healthy data. In this research, which is based on the relational screening model, the data were analyzed with regression, correlation and difference tests. The findings showed that the media literacy level of the parent did not have a significant effect on the social media use disorder of the child. These findings indicate that children have a cognitive world independent of parental influence on their social media usage habits. Despite all these important findings, the results cannot be generalized to all parents and children of the relevant age group because the data are collected cross-sectionally. The thesis presented in terms of understanding the role of parents' digital literacy in understanding children's social media use is important, it is thought that new research is still needed on this issue.
