Abstract (EN)

Intercultural elements, which transferred by literary texts that is a means of communication and the translation of these literary texts, have gained importance In our age that intercultural communication requirements are increasing day by day. In this study it has been emphasized on the translation problems caused by the translation of literary texts and intercultural differences, and the contribution that will be provided to language learning by eliminating these problems. Primarily translation process was studied and then the problems emerging in translation process of literary texts was dealt with a specific emphasize on the characteristics of literary texts.In the final part of the study, Heinrich Böll?s ?Billiards at Half-past Nine?, translated by Ciğdem Bozdoğan, and Max Frisch?s ?Bluebeard?, translated by Esin Önol, were chosen as the examples of literary text.The translations from German into Turkish of both examples were compared and their literary wealth considered in the light of translation theories and comparative translation criticism. In this regard, the forms of expression arising from the cultural and social differences in language learning and the characteristic of language performance were referred by focusing on the emerging problems during the transfer of the source language into the target language. The new conditions and contributions that will be provided by the forms of expression and characteristic of language performance were also emphasized.Key Words: Literary texts, translation criticism, cultural and social differences.
