The effect of out-of-school learning environments in religious education on the realization level of gains (oratory lesson example)

This study is a doctoral thesis that aims to investigate the effect of out-of-school learning environments on the level of achievement of achievements in religious education, using the example of Rhetoric Course. In order to examine the researched topic in more detail, a mixed research method was used in which quantitative and qualitative data were evaluated together. The design of the research is a parallel design that converges from mixed methods research. In the study, quantitative data were obtained from pre-test, post-test and retention tests applied to one experimental and one control group. Qualitative data was obtained from student diaries, student interview forms and observation records made throughout the experiment. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected in parallel, analyzed separately, and then the findings were combined and evaluated together. The study group of the research consisted of 44 male students studying in the 11th grade at Malatya AIHL, 22 of whom were in the experimental group and 22 of whom were in the control group. For out-of-school learning activities in the research, a trip was made to Eyüp Sultan Mosque in Battalgazi district of Malatya province for the Sermon and Homily unit in the Rhetoric course, to Kernek Karagözlüler Mosque for the Mosque Music unit, and to Malatya BB City Cemetery for the Funeral Etiquette unit. The quantitative and qualitative data obtained in the study were combined and evaluated under three headings: the effect of out-of-school learning on academic success, the quality of out-of-school learning and the psychological effect of out-of-school learning. According to the evaluations, out-of-school learning increases academic success; It provides qualitatively more permanent, meaningful and effective learning; It provides an enjoyable, fun, hands-on learning environment and the opportunity to focus more on lessons; It has been concluded that it has positive effects psychologically, such as endearing, motivating and exciting, encouraging practice and instilling self-confidence.
