Abstract (EN)
Selecting and scaling of earthquake data are very important issues to obtain an accurate input which is compatible with the target spectrum. In this thesis, the differences of modifying the earthquake time histories to match this target response spectrum are examined with accordance to the Turkish Code (TBEC2018). Three different modification methods are used: the first approach is the time domain scaling, second is the spectral matching in the frequency domain, and the third is the spectral matching in the time domain by using an algorithm proposed by Al Atik and Abrahamson (2010) using SEISMOMATCH software. To observe the effect of these scaling methods, two reinforced concrete buildings (5 and 11 floors) are modeled considering the Turkish standards using ETABS19 software. Magnitude, site conditions, fault mechanisms as well as the distance from the faults are the selection criteria which are taken into account for the consideration of the thesis. 6 sets of real earthquake time histories are to be selected from the PEER database that include the normal fault, reverse fault and strike slip fault for the near field and far field. Then, non-linear time history analyses are performed on the two building models. Earthquake time histories were modified using the three different scaling methods. Eventually, the engineering demand parameters such as story drifts, roof displacements and base shear are collected and compared.
