Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research was to determinine the effects of some maize (Zea mays L.) varieties on yield, quality and antioxidant activity in the Aegean Regioncarried out at Adnan Menderes University, The Faculty of Agriculture Research and Production Farms' fields. The experiment was carried out as primary crop and using 8 different varietiesof corn including Competo, DKC 6876, P 31D24, P 3167, Kalipso, Indaco, SY Lucroso and Colonia. The researchwas conducted in randomized complete block design with four replications during the year of 2014. According to results of the research, the effects of corn varieties was found to be statistically significant in the yield and quality characteristics. In summary; average grain yield wasranged from 1256.1 to 1741kg/da, 1000 kernel weight from 302.7to 365.7 g, protein content from 6.18 to7.84 %, starch content from 61.74 to 63.28 %. Besides total phenol content of the varieties varied from 112.05 - 244.90 μg GAE/g while antioxidant activity varied between 25.85- 44.25 %. In this study İndaco, Kalipso and DKC 6876 had high grain potential, while they was found low according to other varieties as some quality features. Key Words: Corn, yield characteristics, grain yield, quality characteristics, antioxidant, The Aegean Region.
