The examination of the opinions of the faculty of education undergraduate students towards the faculty

The aim of this research is to present the views of the undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education on the lecturers according to their departments and grades. In line with this aim, the characteristics of the lecturers and their expected features are examined from the perspective of the teacher candidates. This research is a case study in accordance with the qualitative research model. In this study, holistic single case pattern was used. The study group for this research consists of 53 undergraduate students from the first second, third and fourth grades, who are studying Science Teacher Education and English Language Teaching at the Akdeniz University Faculty of Education during the 2016-2017 academic year. In this study, easy-to-reach status sampling, which is a method of purposeful sampling, was used. The interviews were conducted in the form of a focus group study. Audio recordings were made during the interviews and these recordings were later written. The data are encoded on the texts. Data that could respond to each research question has been grouped in itself and analyzed by supported with direct quotations from participants. The data were subjected to descriptive analysis and content analysis by taking expert opinion. According to the findings, as the class level increases in both teaching areas, the expectations of the students towards the faculties were increased. It was found that the students' impressions were negative in terms of faculties professional characteristics. It has been determined that students take role models of faculties by focusing on their behaviors and teaching skills rather than the knowledge of the faculties. In this research, it was found out that the negative meanings that the students have attached to the concept of faculty are more than the positive ones.
