Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master Thesis EVALUATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF A COGENERATION FOUNDATION WORKING WITH NATURAL GAS USING THE METHOD OF EXERGY ANALYSIS Ömer Faruk CAN Fırat University Graduate School of Science and Technology Mechanical Engineering Department 2005, Page 62 In this study, an exergy and economic analysis of Esenyurt Thermic Plant in Istanbul province has been performed. First, a detailed literature research has been made, then general properties of the cogeneration foundations, benefits, kinds of fuels used in these foundations and profits of these foundations for our country have been dealth with. Cogeneration foundations in our country are given in tables which are active now. In the tables, location area of these foundations, actuation units, type of machine, type of fuel and avacuation heat systems have been shown. Exergy analysis has been made under the light of these data by giving mass-energy and exergy equations for open systems. In the result of exergy analysis of the plant, the first law efficient, the second law efficient, fuel efficient, rate of power-heat and rate of process heat have been determined. That the second law efficient was %89.5 has showed that efficient of the plant has been quite high. Because, this rate is usually between %80-90 in a cogeneration foundation. A computer programme has been developed in order to evaluate given data more quickly. In the result of economy analysis of the plant, economy efficient was noted for the plant to redeem itself in 4 years which has been determined and considered extremely short. If considered that the total investment cost is 173 million dollars, as it can be repaid in 4 years, it has showed that these kinds of foundations should be much more common.
