Edition critic of marriage part of El-Kafi

Imam Muhammad b. al-Hasan ash-Shaybani (d.189/805) played the the most important role in composing the legal materials that constituted the basis of the Hanafı school of law. He travelled for the purpose of knowledge to Hijaz which was another centre of learning in Islamic lands and received knowledge from Imam Malik the founder of the Maliki school. The books of Imam Muhammed, which transferred the opinions of Abu Hanifa and his disciples to the future generations, are two types:1) The well-known ones which were transmitted through reliable channels, called " Zahir ar-Riwaya or Masa?il al-Usul". These are: al-Asl (al-Mabsut), al-Jami? al-Kabir, al-Jami? as-Saghir, as-Siyar al-Kabir, as-Siyar a s-Saghir, az-Ziyadat.2) The less known books are called Gayr Zahir ar Riwaya? or ?Masa?il an-Neawadir". Some of them are: al-Kaysaniyyat, ar-Raqqiyyat, al-Haruniyyat, al-Jurjaniyyat, Ziyadat az-Ziyadat.Abu a-Fadl al-Marwazi (d.334/945) better known as al-Hâkim ash-Shahid, summarized and arranged ın a systematic way the writings of Imam Muhammed in his al-Kâfi or al-Mukhtasar.Al-Kâfi being such an important book for the history of Hanafi school of law has not been edited; in this study the Book of Marriage of al-Kafi by al-Marwazi is edited using mostly Istanbul manuscripts. The study comprises of two parts: Introduction and critical edition. The Introduction part includes the biographies of Imam Muhammad and al-Marwazi, information about the founding figures and fundamental texts of the Hanafi school in the century or so preceeding al-Marwazi and a comparison of al-Asl of Imam Muhammad which was the largest of his writings and al-Kâfi. The critical edition part is based on five manuscripts.
