Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT MASTER THESIS PARASITE (HELMINTH) EGG LEVELS IN EFFLUENT AND TREATMENT SLUDGE OF ELAZI? MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT Mustafa TEPE Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Environmental Engineering 2005, Page:43 This study was done to determine the parasite helminth egg types and concentrations, those threat the environment and public health, in effluents and treatment sludges of Elazığ City municipal wastewater treatment plant. For this aim, parasite helminth levels were determined in samples of effluents and treatment sludges of Elazığ municipal wastewater treatment plant during June 2004-May 2005 period. Composite effluent and treatment sludge samples taken ten per month were investigated during a year. It was determined that parasite helminth eggs were in 45.83 % of the effluent samples, 73.33 % of the sludge drying bed samples and 27.5 % of the final land sludge samples according to results of analysis. One Trematod egg (Dicrocoelium spp.), 2 Cestod egg ( Moniezia spp. ve Taenia saginata), 8 Nematod egg (Trichuris spp., Strongyloides spp., Nematodirus spp., Toxocara spp., Taxascaris spp., Strongylidae spp., Ascaris spp., Bunostomum spp.) in composite effluent and sludge drying bed samples and 2 Nematod {Strongyloides, Ascaris spp.) and 1 Cestod egg (Taenia saginata) in the final land sludge were determined during a year. It was determined that parasite helminth egg levels in both wastewater and sludges were above the discharge levels given by regulations for the usage of wastes in agriculture. Key words: Wastewater treatment, Helminth eggs, effluent, treatment sludge VII
