Determination of some phytochemical contents of five Salvia L. species grown in Elazig

Abstract (EN)

The aim of present study is to determine phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity, fatty acids compositions, lipite-soluble vitamins and sterol contents five speices( S. russellii Bentham; S. multicaulis Vahl; S. palaestina Bentham; S. microstegia Boiss. & Bal. ve S. virgata Jacq.) of Salvia grown in Elazığ. Chromatographic analysis of flavonoid and phenolic acids of studied Salvia species done by using PREVAIL C18 reversed-phase colon (15x4.6mm, 5µm, USA). Also, antioxidant capacity was determined DPPH radical scavenging method. In the study, analysis of fatty acid compositions of species were done by using SHIMADZU GC 17 Ver. 3 and lipite-soluble vitamine and sterol contents were determined by using HPLC [Supelcosil TM LC18 (250×4.6 mm, 5 μm, Sigma, USA)]. It was found that five Salvia species have high rutin content (371,6±4,1-857,1±4,6 μg/g). Also, studied Salvia species except for S. virgata have high catechin content (208,2±3,2-1207,8±5,2 μg/g). Furthermore, vanilic acid (101,4±1,5-677,4±1,8 μg/g) and rosmarinic acid (632,6±2,27-2528,6±4,7 μg/g) contents of Salvia species were found high. It was seen that DPPH radical scavenging results of study are between % 38,5±0,6 and % 61,1±0,68. On the other hand, palmitic acid (C16:0) was found as major saturated fatty acid while palmitoelic acid (C16:1), oleic acid (C18:1 n9), linoleic acid (C18:2 n6) and α-linoleic acid (C18:3 n3) were major unsaturated fatty acids. Additionally, species have low lipite-soluble vitamin content. But Salvia species high ergosterol and β-sitosterol content.
