Abstract (EN)

Conventional vehicles cause pollution because of their high CO, CO2, NO2, and HC emissions. Use of hydrogen has been proposed by researchers as a solution to problems due to the depleted fossil fuel resources and the high emissions caused by using those fuels in vehicles. Recently, consumers and governments, too, place a growing demand on the automobile industry for vehicles with improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, and enhanced performance. Electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles provide a potential solution for automobile manufacturers to meet these demands by providing improved efficiency and added flexibility in vehicle powertrains. Hydrogen has been proposed as a fuel to address the environmental issues, the depletion of fossil fuels, and the dependency on petroleum associated with the use of fossil fuels for vehicle propulsion. In the first chapter of this study, various electrical vehicle technologies were examined and an overview of the spectrum of electric vehicles along with the classifications and configurations of electric vehicles was presented. This overview included a summary of current, future, and prototype electric vehicles, along with various electric motors energy storage system and powerdrive systems based electric vehicles. Available software and computer codes used in the design and simulation of these vehicles were reviewed in the second chapter of the thesis. In the third chapter, a literature review was performed to design and model those simulations. In the last chapter of the study, a small electric vehicle was designed and simulated. An Excel program was utilized for the calculations and the simulation. In the design process, the size and the mass of the vehicle were taken into consideration to predict the drive power and tractive forces. The required battery storage capacity for the vehicle range was also calculated.
