Abstract (EN)

During the 80s? Turkey suffered a kind of historical turning point within the principles of demilitarization, democtarization, individualization and the supremacy of law. As a result of this transformation, it is apparent to create the public sphere and public opinion within the context of social tendencies. Undoubtly, lying behind this transformation, one of the main actors was media, private TV transmission as well as the private radio stations and journals. These developments made the media more effective and efficient in shaping the daily politics strongly. On the other hand, it reflects the importance of media as forth power by means of transforming the media owners into the commercial leaders, directed their interests on the public bids and their creation of media monopolies during 28 February process as a postmodern military intervention.Under these facts and events, in our thesis, we focused on the relations between media and politics in the latest decade and analysed the socio-political conjuncture emerged with peculiar examples and newspaper clippings. Nevertheless, as easily seen, the corelation between media and politics led to the publicization of many critical views and ideas. In our study, we used the Critical Theory which has been positioned within the Frankfurt School as the main trheoretical framework in pondering the media-politics relaitons in Turkey by establishing some inspiring links and evocations with the premises of the theory and current developments witnessed in Turkey. As a result, in this thesis, we emphasized the problems arisen in media-polics relations and attempted to solve them by using the main premises and parameters of the theory in paralel with the current tendencies of the existing political power in Turkey during the decade. Keywords: Critical Theory, Politics, Media, Arap Spring, Conservative Identity
