A research on determining consciousness level of energy management applications in Kastamonu manufacturing firms

Using the facilities in order to sustain and develop the technology, production and convenience requires energy consumption. Therefore, the rapid increase in the demand of energy consumption has continued to rise since the last century. This situation caused energy to become one of the major expenses. Also, the resources that have been using to generate energy such as coal and petroleum jeopardize the world by causing environmental pollution. In addition to the resources mentioned, nuclear power is another common way of generating energy. Although it doesn't cause environmental pollution like coal and petroleum, a misfortune that may occur during operation can cause radiation disaster in broad areas. So, the danger of nuclear energy production is more when compared the other resources. Hence, human who wishes to keep the prosperity of technology while saving the environment to become a uninhabitable should be more careful in energy supply and consumption matters. Energy management refers sum of all activities including organizational and technical processes in order to minimize the energy consumption as possible. The purpose of this study is to determine the awareness level and the activities regarding energy management in the manufacturing businesses in Kastamonu city. Therefore, the research was held in the manufacturing businesses operating in Kastamonu. Surveys are used in order to acquire data, and the data obtained was analyzed by using SPSS software. The results showed that the majority of business managers know about the energy efficiency and energy saving concepts, and think that energy management should be held. However, it is concluded that they only apply the easy activities, which doesn't require to continuing observation and assessment, and neglect the activities that necessitates permanence.
