Abstract (EN)

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease, which influences life qualityof patient. Relation between epilepsy and sleep is one of the subject, that hasbeen worked since ancient times over it. However this subject is currently notclear.Since finding of EEG, studies about epilepsy and sleep accelerated.Together with polysomnography started a new period on sleep field. Howeverthere is still not enough data.İn this study , we evaluate video EEG- polysomnography findings ofepilepsy patients for investigating the effect of epilepsy on sleep structure,effect of anticonvulsants wich used by patients, on sleep, who came regularlyto our clinic.İn this study, we investigate sleep structure of 49 patients, whosuffered sleep problems and whos seizures are under control with takinganticonvulsants in terapotic range.We established, that sleep structure of epileptic patients is less stablethan normal sleep structure. Especially, we faund, that sleep structure ofpartial seizurre patients is more distinct.We analyzed patients according to anticonvulsant therapy. Wecompared effects of anticonvulsants onto sleep structure. Eventually wedetermined , that sleep structure of epileptic patient is not normal, evenseizurres are under control with treatment. However, we found that REMstage is more affected than NonREM stage.This study provided valuable contribution, when we looked at theliterature. There is rare comprehensive study about this issue. Our datashows, that developing new treatment regimens, which stabilizing sleepstructure or not disturbing sleep structure during seizure prevention, will bevaluable.
