Investigation of the effect of perineum hot and cold application on pain levels in episiotomy treated lohusa

ABSTRACT Gülfem ELMAS, Investigation of the Effect of Perineum Hot and Cold Application on Pain Levels in Episiotomy Treated Lohusa, Nursing Program, Master Thesis, Gaziantep, 2019. This study was planned experimentally in order to determine the effect of hot and cold application on the removal of perianal pain after vaginal delivery. This study was carried out with a total of 95 episiotomies treated lohusa, 32 of which with cold treatment, 31 with hot and 32 with no treatment between 03.11.2017-03.12.2018 in Postpartum Ward in Van Training and Research Hospital of Ministry of Health of Turkısh Republıc. "Introductory Information Form", "pain monitoring and nursing ınterventions form" and "visual analog scale" was used for data collection. The pain of the lohusa samples was evaluated and the hot, cold gel pad was applied to the lohusa for 15 minutes at second and eight hours. The repeated pains before and after the application were evaluated. The obtained data were evaluated by using appropriate statistical methods using SPSS 22.0 package program. According to the findings of the study, the majority of the cases were found to be between the ages of 19-29 and unemployed and graduated from primary school. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the perineum pain scores at 2 hours after delivery. Considering the mean scores before and after the second application; the mean pain score before the cold application was 2.91±1.20; after application 1.34±0.66; before the mean pain score of the hot application group was 4.48±1.96; later 3.03±1.76; and the mean pain score of the control group was first 3.97±2.62; and later 3.84±2.61. When the mean pain scores of the groups were compared, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p<0.001). While the cold group experienced the least pain after the procedure, the control group lohusa who had followed it in the hot application group stated that they felt the most pain. As a result, it was determined that cold and hot application decreases perineum pain after vaginal delivery. Key Words: Episiotomy, Perineum Pain, Hot and Cold Application
