The traces of the old Turkish beliefs and folk physic in Ergani

Beliefs are the basic elements that reflects a nation?s mythic and mystic chracteristics. History forms and transfers these basic elements in life conditions. Human begins are curious about everything related to their own past. This curiosity leads then to the ancestral beliefs. Sometimes it is not easy for nations to explain everything in their cultural map. Especially belief is the principal issue of them. Since ritual and practices depend on belief are the main characteristics that seperates a nation from other nations. To adjust and transfer the culture that depends on belief inside the folklore studies need an accumulation and a serious methodology. According to this, it is a very classification for us to name archaic rituals and beliefs as supertitions. Because no practices are without a basic. All kinds of beliefs and rituals carry valves from past to now. According to us the basic source of practices that are thougt as supertitions must be looked for in the myth. The basic reason which encourages us to this study, without doubt, is this simple classification. To us all practices taht are became a tradition and continve tol ive by changing or defencing themselves carry some trails from ancient times. This study is the effort of following these trails. According to us the wrong, excluding this simple classification, is to give a new name. This study consits of four chapter. n the first chapter we tried to give summary of information about Ergani. This chapter includes the area?s general characteristics such as historical and geographical. n the second chapter we tried to give the beliefs of ?Gök Tanrı? that has a significant place in Turkish religions motif and believing people?s effect to Ergani. By the way, we must sat hat in this chapter the early studies about this subject are taken consideration and given information evaluated in this way. We can say that this area is rich for these rituals. The third chapter is about the trasition period of life. t is tried to give the Ergani?s people application of birth, life and death by chronologically. The methods that are applicated in the life?s trasition period are thought as the reflection of the past. Because everyone gives preference to the what he/she learned from his/her ancestors. The last chapter is parted to the subject ?Ocaklar? and puplic medicine that are continued according to the beliefs. n this chapter we tried to concentrate on physically continving elements. But don?t forget that developments on modern medicine deeply effected the puplic medicine. The methods studied in this chapter, generally are continving in the countryside. At the end of study we add the bibliography, the list of consulted person, some questions we use and a general evaluation. While choosing the consulted person we prefered person over 50. and people who don?t know reading and writing. This is conciouslly because of the aim of the study. As this is a study of environs, it generally includes the ancient Turkish beliefs in Ergani?s folk culture.
