The effects of the television programs on the identity creating process of adolescents (The example of Denizli city Tavas town)

ABSTRACT This research care about the effect of the relevision as a mass media device on high school students educated in Denizli Tavas. Real aim of this study is to determine effect of the most watched tv programs on young people identity process. In addition to this, the effect of relations with friends, school, family have been tried to be appraised. Study universe consists of 1300 students educated in Denizli Tavas between 2005-2006. Questionnaire have been applied on 235 student from various social ? cultural and social-economic environment. The data obtained at the end of the questionnaire have been converted to table in direction of independent vairables like school,class,sex,family structure using SPSS 12.0. In the research nominal and ordinal scales were used. As a result of hypothesis put forward and existed variables scale level taken into consideration Chı- Squared Test was used.Thus, the thesis consist of 198 pages. As a result of the research; 1. Television programs effect adolescent identity process. 2. Students mostly watch television on their spare time. 3. Students mostly use television as an amusement. 4. Students watch television at least a few days in a week. 5. Students mostly watch television series as a program. 6. Students mostly watch television series due to adress. 7. Students want to be the actress of television programs. 8. Students mostly watch violent content television series. 9. Students in identity process also effected by religious television programs. 10. Students mostly model their teachers. 11. Students?s idols have important role on their identity process. 12. Students? values have been changed. 13. Students mostly discuss their problems with their friends. 14. Students devolopebad habids with effect of their friends. At the end of this research, researcher has given advises based on the problems revealed.
