Abstract (EN)

The constantly increasing population and the rise in living conditions necessitate the continuous growth and development of the industry. The economies of the countries also show growth depending on these. Economic growth, as well as the increase in the living conditions of the population and the continuation of these demands, make it necessary to provide energy in an adequate and reliable way as well as at low cost. While the world's energy needs are increasing, the decrease in energy resources, especially fossil fuels, and the unequal distribution of these resources among countries make countries dependent on energy. For this reason, countries have to produce energy regardless of whether the resources they have are economical or not. For this purpose, Turkey attaches importance to the renewable energy resources it has. In Turkey, studies are carried out to develop wind, solar power plants and other renewable energy sources and to ensure their optimum use. However, the discontinuous nature of renewable energy and the fact that energy consumption differs between various hours of the day bring the importance and necessity of energy storage. In case the country's resources are insufficient to meet the peak demand in energy, pumped storage hydroelectric power plants are needed. These power plants are planned to store water in a high reservoir when the power demand is low and to obtain hydroelectric energy from the water accumulated in this way at peak times. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the applicability of pumped storage hydroelectric power plants (PDHES), which is among the renewable energy systems and has been used for many years to meet the energy needs of the world at peak hours, on the Ermenek Stream, one of the main water resources of the Eastern Mediterranean Basin, which is the 17th catchment basin of our country. will be carried out. It is aimed to answer many questions such as the technical features, location, approximate cost and model of a possible PDHES.
