Abstract (EN)

Adaptive reuse is a tool for renovation and reuse used to transform old and abandoned buildings into buildings more suitable for contemporary user demands. This thesis focuses on three campuses of Bahçeşehir University (South, North and Galata Campuses in the heart of Istanbul) that are transformed into campuses by the help of adaptive reuse and it examines and evaluates their adaptive reuse approaches. Within the scope of the study, this study uses the FLEX 4.0 method that is recently developed by Rob Geraedts (2016) to quantitatively evaluate the flexibility of the selected samples and the quality of their properties in the context of adaptive reuse. In the analyzes made in this context, the flexibility level of each campus is examined separately with the FLEX 4.0 method and attention is drawn to the flexibility in the re-functionalization approaches of the campuses. The findings of the study demonstrate that the South Campus as a building has limited flexibility, whereas the North and Galata campuses are hardly flexible. This means the South Campus has a more optimal tendency than the latter campuses to be more flexible regarding any future change regarding functional changes targeting the satisfaction and fulfillment of users.
