Abstract (EN)

This study has been conducted with the aim of examining the relationship between the perception of social support, states of mental well-being, and health perception among obese individuals. The study is descriptive in nature. It was conducted between October 2022 and May 2024. It was conducted on obese individuals registered at Health Sciences University Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital Home Health Services and Diyarbakır Selahaddin Eyyubi State Hospital Home Health Services Units. The universe of the study consists of 103 obese individuals receiving home care services. The study did not use a sampling method; instead, it reached the entire universe. A descriptive information form for participants, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Mental Well-Being Scale, and the Health Perception Scale were utilized to obtain information. Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Analysis, and Spearman Correlation Analysis were applied for the analysis of the obtained information. Permissions were obtained from the relevant boards and participants for the conduct of the study. The average total score of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support for the obese participants who joined the research is 47.91±18.91, the average total score of the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale is 37.95±14.17, and the average total score of the Health Perception Scale is 45.18±3.25. A significant positive relationship of moderate level was found between the average scores of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (r= .630, p=.000). Moreover, a significant positive relationship of a weak level was found between the average scores of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the Health Perception Scale (r=.399, p=.000). In conclusion, it can be suggested to conduct interventional nursing studies aimed at enhancing the levels of social support for obese individuals.
