Social perspective on adoption: The case of Erzincan

In this study, the extent to which demographic characteristics and religious orientations of individuals affect their perspectives on adoption service was examined. When we look at the statistical data in our country, it is seen that the adoption service is not at the desired level and there are many children in institutional care. In this respect, the main problem of the research is "What are the underlying reasons for the adoption service not reaching the desired level in our country?". The basic assumption of the research is "There is a significant relationship between individuals' religious orientations and their attitudes towards adoption". "Do individuals' attitudes towards adoption differ according to gender, age, education level, marital status, having children and income level?" are the main questions of the research. When the literature on adoption was examined, it was seen that the legal dimension of the subject was mostly covered, there were limited studies on social attitudes towards adoption, and there were no studies examining the effect of religious orientation and demographic data on adoption attitudes. Since there is no study similar to this study, it is thought to contribute to the literature.The study group consisted of 500 individuals (female= 262, male= 238) aged 30 and over residing in Erzincan province. Demographic information form, religious orientation scale and attitude towards adoption scale were used as data collection tools. Data collection tools were applied online. In the analysis of the data, t-test, correlation and regression analysis, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe Post-hoc test were used. As a result of the research, it was concluded that there was a significant relationship between age, income level and religious orientation and attitude towards adoption, while there was no significant relationship between gender, education level, marital status, having children and attitude towards adoption.
