Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to determine the marriage problems faced by married individuals and their educational needs. Within this purpose, the present study investigated the marital adjustment levels of individuals and whether marital adjustment differed with respect to some demographic and other marriage related variables. The target population of this study consisted of couples married between 1-15 years and working in various institutions in Afyonkarahisar city. A total of 194 participants (97 married couples), which were selected based on convenience sampling method, were surveyed. Marital adjustment was measured using Dyadic Adjustment Scale developed by Spanier (1976). The data were analyzed using SPSS 13.0 for Windows. The findings of the study indicate that marital adjustment was comprised of four dimensions, namely Dyadic Satisfaction, Dyadic Consensus, Dyadic Cohesion, and Affectional Expression. The study also indicates that there were statistically significant differences among individuals in their marital adjustment levels based on gender, age, length of marriage, past marriage experience, income, the individual?s frequency of contacts with his/her own family and his/her family in-law. Based on the results of the study, some recommendations were presented regarding the educational needs of married individuals in order to help them solve their marriage problems and to increase their marital adjustment levels.
