Reflections of cosmology as an image of the universe in painting

The following study, named "The Reflections of Cosmology as an Image of the Universe in Painting" aims to put the conceptual approach of the artist, whose plastic analyses focus on canvas painting, on a scientific basis by making use of scientific research techniques. The concept of cosmology, which is a branch of science that examines the universe with all its aspects, is discussed,and the concepts of Astronomy and Mythology, which are related to the subject flow, are explained. The domain of meaning that the concept of cosmology refers to is constantly changing as the discoveries about the universe continue to occur in the historical process. For this reason, the perception of cosmology also has a changing and transforming structure. Seen from the cosmic dimension, the sky is the face of space that can be seen from the earth. In this context, the artistic depictions of the sky have been examined by emphasizing how the sky has been observed since primitive times. The depictions of the image of the sky that we witness during the day and night and the cosmic elements in artistic expressions have been examined with ancient and contemporary examples. In addition, it has been taken into account how the perception of cosmology is included in the culture in the mythical context. Scientists such as Kopernik, Galileo and Newton, who had significanteffects on the physical discovery of the universe we live in,are mentionedin the study. Also, By touching upon the process of discovering the physical dynamics of the universe, the depictions of thesame process in ancient and contemporary art are included. By contextualizing the concept of cosmology, the examples of contemporary art that create a different universe experience are presented. In the third and last part of the study, the individual works of the artist, which focus on the concepts that make up the content of this thesis, are conveyed.
