Investigation of the effects of household washing on denim fabric

Within the scope of the thesis, domestic washing was carried out on 2 indigo dyed denim fabrics, which had 98% + 2% cotton + elastase blend of the same type of yarn and weaving, and differed only in the finishing steps. As a result of repeated washes, analyzes were carried out on structural properties, dimensional changes, friction fastness, tensile strength values and color change values. In the scope of this study, four different washing repetitions were made with denim detergents, which are commonly used in household washings with different chemical contents, as 1, 5, 10 and 15 times. By selecting the machine program suitable for the type of fabric, the washing process; repeated washings were carried out at denim temperatures of 40, C, 1000 rpm and 60 g of detergent, and the washing time has expected to be 60 minutes. The washing machine used in the washing process is a normal household washing machine and the detergents used are selected in accordance with the ones available in the market. Comparison was made between structural and dimensional changes, friction fastness values, tensile strength and color change values occurring in denim fabrics as a result of all washing performed. In addition, how detergents affect denim fabrics was observed and the result was evaluated.
